Cloistered Dominican Nuns Corpus Christi Monastery

Happy News for the Solemnity of St. Joseph!

Though we are still in the midst of Lent, this week has given us many occasions to celebrate the hope and life we share in Christ – first Laetare Sunday, then the Solemnity of St. Patrick (since he is co-patron of the Archdiocese of San Francisco) and today, the Solemnity of St. Joseph, Husband of Mary and foster father of Jesus! So, to help celebrate such a grand week, here’s some joyous news from our community.

First announcement: Sr. Mary Isabel of the Angels, O.P., her petition being prayerfully considered by our council and chapter, has been approved for renewal of her temporary vows! Her one-year renewal ceremony will take place at our morning Mass on May 13th. This also means it is time for her to begin the integration process from the novitiate to the professed.

Just before Vespers, Sister Mary Isabel was called to Chapter for questioning of her intention and to confirm the approval for the renewal of vows

And our second announcement: Sr. Tara has been approved by the council and chapter for investiture!  She will be clothed in the Dominican habit and receive her new religious name on May 24th (at a private ceremony within the community).  May 24th happens to be doubly significant this year – normally on May 24th we commemorate our Holy Father Dominic and the translation of his remains, however this year the 24th happens to fall on Pentecost Sunday (so it also happens to be Sr. Maura’s feast day!).

The day after the novitiate received the news from the Chapter was also the birthday of one of our sisters in the novitiate.  So we celebrated during recreation after dinner with S’mores and drinking chocolate enjoyed outside in the California spring sunshine.

S’mores and Chocolate…Double delights!

So, now you may ask, what are these steps and what exactly is the process to becoming a nun?  If you are a single, Catholic woman between the ages of 18 and 40, plan to attend our next “Come and See” Day (July 11, 2015) (RSVP by email or telephone), or contact Sr. Joseph Marie, O.P., our vocation directress for more information.
