On the feast of our Sister Catherine of Siena, we rejoiced with Sister Mery Widjaja as she received the habit
of the Order of Preachers and began her canonical novitiate. Sister's new name reflects her love and strong devotion to the Holy
Angels on which day she chose as her feast day.
Our prayers accompany her on her journey as a contemplative. May our Blessed Mother and the Holy Angels protect and guide her in her discernment.
Homily given by our Prioress, Sr. Mary Assumpta, O.P.
Today we congratulate Sr. Mery for her "yes" in response to God's call. She desires to take a further step in her Dominican vocation to draw closer to Him who loved us unto
death through our Dominican way of life.
However, this day is not about Sr. Mery but rather about God's mercy and love - that He should so love Sister to set her apart to follow Him more closely through an ascetical life of
prayer and sacrifice in the spirit of St. Dominic.
We thank Sister for her response to grace and pray that she will always surrender to God's will in imitation of that humble maiden of Nazareth who freely gave her "fiat" at the
Annunciation. All of creation was made new as a result of Our Lady's "fiat", and no differently will sister's "yes" be used in ways, although unknown to us, for her sanctification and
that of the salvation of souls.
We pray for Sister through the intercession of Our Lady and St Catherine of
Siena, whose feast day we celebrate."This is [indeed] the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad!"
