Cloistered Dominican Nuns Corpus Christi Monastery

Discernment, Virtues, and Holiness, Oh My!

Our most recent “Come-And-See” Day was last Saturday and we are blessed and grateful for the young women who came, as well as two of our friars who gave of their time to be here.

01.DSC06619As usual, we started the day with Mass and Terce (midmorning prayer), then the women met in our extern dining room for coffee and light breakfast while introductions were made.  Our first presenter was Fr. Augustine Hilander, O.P.  He opened the day’s conversation by asking, “What is our purpose in life?  What will bring us happiness?  How do we know whether we are on the right path?”  And followed up with practical knowledge and advice.

Our prioress Sr. Maria Christine, O.P. spoke about the Dominican monastic vocation and touched on its importance and role in the Church and Order.

After lunch brought a chance to meet some of the community and hear their vocation stories.

In the afternoon, Br. Andrew Dominic, O.P., one of our student brothers, spoke on Dominican spirituality.  His talk picked up the themes of Fr. Augustine’s morning talk perfectly, though he denied they’d spoken before preparing their presentations (what a beautiful thing to see the Holy Spirit at work!).

Interwoven throughout the day was the hours of the Divine Office, lots of food, and an opportunity to meet one-on-one with a sister or Fr. Augustine; the day ended with Vespers and Benediction.

As always, we are grateful to our Dominican brothers for their time and support.  And we are especially edified by the young women who come forward to learn more about the monastic vocation as they discern God’s will for their lives.

Please keep them in prayer as they continue seeking God.
