Cloistered Dominican Nuns Corpus Christi Monastery

Brothers and Sisters in Unity

The friars, sisters and laity are “to preach the name of our Lord Jesus Christ throughout the world.”  The nuns are to seek, ponder, and call upon Him in solitude so that the word proceeding from the mouth of God may not return to Him empty, but may accomplish those things for which it was sent.

-Fundamental Constitution of the Nuns of the Order of Preachers

No Order has quite the same closeness between its branches as does the Dominican family.  United in spirit and mission, the branches of the Order – friars, nuns, sisters, and laity – only thrive when united, recognizing the need each has for the other and rejoicing in the diversity of gifts, yet united in mission and purpose.

Which is why we love our family reunions and get-togethers.  We do not have visits during the penitential seasons of Advent and Lent, but the Christmas season often brings visits from our brothers, home to St. Albert’s Priory during the season break.

Father Peter Junipéro Hannah, O.P. came for a special purpose.  Currently assigned as associate to the St. Catherine of Siena Newman Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, he is also the promoter of the Confraternity of the Angelic Warfare for the Western Dominican Province.  He was in the Bay Area and made a point of coming personally to enroll four of our sisters into the Confraternity (what is the Confraternity, you ask?  Stay tuned for a future post!).  After the enrollment ceremony, he stayed for a visit.

Brother Damien Dominic Nguyen, O.P. and Brother Joseph Marie Dinh, O.P. each stopped by for a visit during their Christmas break from their studies at the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology in Berkeley. Both Brothers belong to the Vietnamese Vicariate in Canada but they’re currently studying with the Western Dominican Province.

And finally, we had a visit with our new novice brothers!  We prayed the Office and Rosary, then spent the afternoon recreation time talking and hearing their vocation stories.
