Cloistered Dominican Nuns Corpus Christi Monastery

A Visit With our Friars from “Across the Pond”

This summer, we had a very special visit from some of our Dominican brothers from England and the Netherlands!  Through the generosity of benefactors, the novices of the English and Dutch Provinces (they presently have a common novitiate in England) were given the opportunity to visit the Western Dominican Province and experience a bit of Dominican life here.  As part of their visit, they spent an afternoon visiting our monastery.

It was a wonderful visit.  We were eager to hear about life in their respective countries, the joys and challenges they face, and their stories of how they came to enter the Order.  And they were eager to hear about our life as Dominican nuns.  Sadly, the English Province does not have a monastery of Dominican nuns – the last one, Carisbrooke, closed about 20 years ago.

As these novices profess their first vows as Dominicans, we keep them especially in prayer.  And please join us in praying too for the Dominican nuns to be able to re-found in England.  It was the fervent desire of Our Holy Father Dominic that houses of Dominican nuns be in close proximity with the houses of Dominican friars as a wellspring for the Order’s holy preaching.

Holy Father Dominic, pray for us!
