This is a day of preparation and retreat. “As a tarnished mirror,” says St. Basil, “cannot reflect the images of things, so man cannot receive the light of the Holy Spirit unless he rejects sin and the affections of the flesh.” Let us prepare our souls for the coming of the Divine Spirit, by avoiding every willful imperfection, by keeping greater interior and exterior silence (except as our duties and charity demands), and exciting humble and ardent desires for God.
Prayer: Come, O Holy Spirit, come!
Practice: Unite yourself with the dispositions of Mary and the Apostles in the cenacle (upper room).
