A Moment Meditation: Those who Follow You, Lord…

Friday of the 2nd week of Advent

Readings: Is 48:17-19, Ps 1 Those who follow you, Lord, will have the light of life, Mt 11:16-19

We played the flute for you and you did not dance. We played a dirge and you did not mourn! How often we complain of something only to complain all the more when it has been addressed and the opposite is now being done. We say if it were like this, but when it becomes so we say why can’t it be how it was. We don’t know what we want. We cannot be satisfied. Nothing will please us. Why is this?

It is because we are looking for satisfaction by ourselves. We want our own way without realizing that we have no way. Jesus is the Way, the only way. Jesus is our all, our rest, our satisfaction. If only we would let him lead us, we would abound in blessings. We would learn with Saint Paul to rejoice with those who are rejoicing and mourn with those who mourn. We would be able to be content whether in abundance or in want, because our contentment does not lie in ourselves, in our opinions or in our poor efforts, but rather in the One who is good. His wisdom will be vindicated and we will know a peace the world cannot give – a peace that cannot be shattered by war and violence, by annoyance or fear, or even by sin. Let us eat and drink, then, for the Bridegroom is with us.
